University of Canterbury Clinches Victory in Concrete Cricket Bat Contest

The University of Canterbury triumphed over the University of Auckland in the highly anticipated inaugural Concrete Cricket Bat Competition, held during the Concrete NZ 1-day Conference at Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre.

Combining innovation with batting prowess, both teams showcased exceptional concrete design and construction skills.

The competition featured an oral presentation, cylinder test, bat evaluation, and cricket match, offering participants a dynamic platform to demonstrate their creativity and technical expertise.

In a closely contested match, Canterbury’s concrete bat, crafted with a cutting-edge low-carbon mix, outperformed Auckland’s impressive entry, securing a hard-fought victory.

Marked by camaraderie and mutual respect, the event celebrated ingenuity and sportsmanship, leaving both teams eager for the rematch.

The excitement continues to build for 2025, when the competition will move to Auckland’s Viaduct Convention Centre on 16-17 October as part of the next Concrete NZ Conference.
